This week I'm giving a shout out to the Ms. Foundation for Women. Recently they hosted their 30th annual gala, the Gloria Awards, named after their most notable founder, Gloria Steinem. Here's why I invest in the Ms. Foundation and why I think you should, too:

#1 Their mission is to build women’s collective power to realize a nation of justice for all. In the 1970s, Ms. was one of the first funders of domestic violence shelters and helped to spawn the women's philanthropic movement by becoming the first foundation to solely fund women and girls.

#2 Leadership is everything and the Ms. Foundation is run by the equally smart and fierce Teresa Younger.

#3 At this year's Gloria Awards they unapologetically celebrated an all-black female honoree cast that included Marley Dias, Shannan Reaze, Elaine Welteroth, Monica Simpson, Joanne Smith, and Ava Duvernay.

#4 Two of the women who built the Ms. Foundation, Marie C. Wilson and Gloria Steinem, have made a serious investment in me. I wouldn't be where I am without their mentorship and sponsorship.

#5 Only 7% of philanthropic dollars are invested in women. Only 2% invested in women of color. The Ms. Foundation is changing that.
