Another Glass Ceiling Shattered

As a voracious reader, an Oprah groupie, and an obsessor of women in leadership, there was nothing more exciting this week than this announcement: Ava Duvernay will be the first woman of color to direct a $100 million movie—Disney's adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's children's book, A Wrinkle in Time, starring Oprah Winfrey. I am over the moon (pun intended for those familiar with the book). In the science fantasy novel first published in 1963, the thirteen-year-old heroine, Meg, defeats the all powerful IT who has controlled the planet of Camazotz by hypnotizing all its inhabitants to believe that the status quo is normal. Hmmm...thank goodness Ava is bringing us all back down to earth.
